10 THINGS YOU CAN DO TO START A REUSABLE BAG HABIT

Many of you have been asking us how you can get out of the habit of accepting these seemingly convenient single use plastic bags.  Well here are a few tips which are compliments from our friends at Chico Bag;

10 THINGS YOU CAN DO TO START A REUSABLE BAG HABIT

Wage a campaign in your town or city to end the use of single-use bags by encouraging legislators to implement a grocery bag fee. Contact us at info@onemoregeneration.org for more information.  If you set up an appointment with your local officials and it is in the state of Georgia, we would be more than happy to come and attend the meeting.

Talk to local community and environmental groups about the bag issue and find out if they want to get involved.  Ask your clergy leaders, local schools, local scouts groups, local retailers and business owners… anybody who will listen and shows interest in what you are doing.  Again, if it is local, we will gladly attend any such meeting.

Create a petition asking for your city to take on the single-use bag problem and create a healthy reusable bag habit. Circulate it at schools, universities, the library, grocery stores, farmer’s markets, and anywhere else where you can connect with your neighbors.  We have such a petition (I Support The Say No To Plastic Bags Coalition) and you are welcome to use it to solicit even more signatures.

Encourage local retailers to start a smart bagging policy with these tips:

– Offer a bag refund to customers who bring their own reusable bags.

– Place signs reminding people to bring their own bags

– Create a reusable bag drop-off for others to use.

– Create an in-store bag recycling program.

– Sell reusable bags in their store.

Bring an extra reusable bag to the grocery store the next time you shop and give it away to a stranger who doesn’t have them. Ask them to “Pay it Forward” and give a reusable bag away the next time they shop.

Write a letter to the newspaper explaining the environmental problems with paper and plastic bags. Use our resources to help you come up with talking points.

Start a OMG fundraiser to raise money for an environmental or litter prevention group. Contact info@onemoregeneration.org for more information!

Stage a Bag Monster® sighting in your community. Contact info@onemoregeneration.org and we will be glad to set it up!

Give your friends and family reusable bags as gifts for birthdays, graduation, housewarming parties, and special holidays.  We have Chico Bags available in all colors and sizes.  Just let us know how many you need and when you need them by.  We ask for a $5.00 donation per bag and request all orders be for at least 30-bags.  Your organization can sell them for $7.00 each and start raising funds for your efforts as well.

Set a good example by just saying no to single-use bags when you’re at the store. Others in line will follow suit!
