Trivia question for Feb-10-2011
Our corporate colors at OMG are Blue and Green. I’m not sure if that had anything to do with the fact that Olivia picked these guys for her trivia today but here goes:
Considered the smallest bird in the world, these guys are even smaller than some day-flying moth species. These guys are only found in two distinct location in the world. Although their are an estimated 100,000 of these tiny birds flying around, they are still vulnerable due to freak weather (hurricanes) which blows them far out to sea and wreaks havoc on the island plants.
Even though these guys are so tiny, don’t try to invade their territory. Researchers have been attacked with numerous “dive-bomb” maneuvers for getting too close.
So here’s our questions: Tell us the name and average weight of these itty-bitty birds and also tell us where in the world these guys can be found?
Good luck 😉
Answer:
Congratulations are in order for Natalie for being the first with the correct answer. The tiny bird we featured is in fact the Bee Hummingbird. Bee Hummingbirds only weigh about 0.07-oz. They can only be found in Cuba and on the small island off of Cuba called “Isla de la Juventud” or Island of Pines.
One of their favorite plants are the “Flame of the Woods” which are abundant and filled with sweet nectar.
Here is more information on these lightweights: Bee Hummingbirds
Thanks for playing along 😉
